Coledale House

This project involved a strategic re-calibration of a small miner’s cottage that was recently purchased. The overwhelming unusable area onsite due the steep contours, was a notion to create the house around the large northern balcony’s, offering a plan that transparently connects indoor and outdoor living spaces. The first floor addition sits high above the street and provides views from calculated positioned windows and balconies from the master bedroom. A simple but poetic palette of light, natural materials is the backdrop to a rich textile escarpment of natural forest colours. The house explores the contemporary coastal cottage aesthetic, along with ideas to add volume to the living spaces and streetscape.
